EECP

What is EECP?
  • Enhanced External Counter Pulsation
  • Noninvasive treatment for angina (chest pain)
  • Reduces angina by helping small vessels around your heart become larger and more open, which allows better oxygen and blood supply to the heart
How does it work?
  • Large blood pressure-like cuffs are placed around the lower abdomen, thighs, and calves.
  • The patient is monitored with a continuous EKG which sets the timing of the cuffs’ inflation/deflation.
  • When the heart is at rest, the cuffs inflate, increasing blood flow to the heart.
  • As the heart beats, the cuffs deflate, decreasing the amount of work the heart has to do to pump blood to the rest of the body.
