Counterpulsation therapy is becoming increasingly accepted and appreciated by many cardiologists as an alternative way to treat those with Unstable Angina, and those with Heart Failure  related to coronary blood flow (ischemic heart failure).  Therapy for patients unable to tolerate bypass surgery and angioplasty often proves very effective.  Over 80 percent of patients have been shown to have improve.  This improvement is measured by less angina (chest pain from the heart), decreased heart failure symptoms and an improved ability to exercise and carry out usual activities.

Conterpulation therapy involves placing a series of inflating "blood pressure" cuffs around the calf’s, thighs and hips of a patient.  A powerful computer times the inflation of these cuffs with a patients heart beat.  A significant improvement in blood flow to the heart occurs.   Thirty-five one hour treatments eventually lead to a very obvious improvement in our patients symptoms.  These improvements have been noted to last up to several years.

Saline Heart Group has chosen to invest in the most trusted and widely acclaimed counterpulation therapy for our patients.  EECP therapy is a trademarked algorhythm from the Vasomedical Corporation.  EECP machines are the most widely tested and the excellent results noted in newspapers and the medical press has been achieved with EECP.

Stacie Griffin is our EECP lab technical director.  She leads a team of nationally certified technologists.  Dr. Baxley and Dr. Hatch are pleased to provide this innovative therapeutic service to our community.  Additional information can be obtained by calling our office.
